Exhibits

Our responsibility to display material from the Ascension Historical Society (AHS) collections is another of our tasks. We have mounted numerous exhibits of photographs and artifacts including:
2005: For the Ascension Cathedral's annual three-day Greek Festival we mounted blown up early photographs throughout the Dining and Tea Rooms which portrayed volunteers preparing the necessary enormous amounts of food and pastries for previous Festivals.
2004: We were invited to show our photographs in San Jose, California, by the Hellenic Heritage Institute for their celebratory event honoring the 2004 Olympics.
2002 and 2000: Our original Veterans Commeration exhibit, 2000, was expanded in 2002 to include biographies, memorabilia, and photographs, as well as the Soldier Statue sculpted by Andrew Saffas and destined for unveiling in Greece.
2000: We co-sponsored two sequential exhibits of "The Eyes of Hope".
1999: We loaned our photographs to the Oakland Public Library History Room for their successful exhibit titled "Greeks of the East Bay", and we also supplied desserts.
1993: We showed numerous artifacts during the Ascension Cathedral's annual three-day Greek Festival. Also, we sold books on procedures for oral histories as well as books pertaining to the Greek American experience.
1992: We presented a week-long exhibit during the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Hellenic Community of Oakland and Vicinity. (When the current Greek Language School students saw the early language books in this exhibit, they were astonished at the formality of the Greek language taught to their grandparents.)
1992: We also prepared a twenty-eight page chronological montage and index of photographs for the 75th-anniversary bound-publication.
Furthermore throughout the years, we have mounted numerous small exhibits during the coffee hour following Divine Liturgies, and for special occasions.
