Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension debuts a pictorial exhibit:
- 2007 marks the 90th Anniversary of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Oakland & Vicinity Hellenic Community.
- To commemorate this event the Greek Orthodox Ascension Cathedral and the Ascension Historical Society are cordially inviting you to take a walk back in time to see how a community has evolved throughout the past 100 years, from Greece to America, while enjoying our legendary hospitality at the Champagne Reception.
- The pictorial exhibit — commemorating 100 years of the Hellenic presence in the Bay Area — will depict over 100 years of photos with special interest in the community, weddings, and setting of the Cathedral. Docents will be on hand to answer questions about the exhibit.
- This exhibit is an opportunity to view many treasures from the Ascension Historical Society collection that are not normally open to the public.
Of the many types of media collected and archived by the Society, none are more beautiful than the early pictures of the Greeks.
- Established in 1989, the Ascension Historical Society (AHS) has worked diligently to preserve Hellenic American history of the Bay Area for all who wish to learn about it.
