Illustrated lecture by Jason Mavrovitis introducing his novel Remember Us
The Ascension Historical Society is pleased to announce that noted author Jason Mavrovitis will make a presentation with a projection of photos on Sunday, February 22, 2009, immediately following the Divine Liturgy in the Richmond Room of the Ascension Cathedral Community Center in Oakland.
Jason will be introducing his novel Remember Us.
"It is fiction based on truth," says Mavrovitis. "Performing the research and writing the novel gave me a great appreciation for what my ancestors overcame to immigrate to this country and succeed."
"Remember Us is based on the lives of my maternal grandmother and her family, and my mother and father as well as oral accounts, documented history, ships' passenger lists, naturalization papers, court transcripts and municipal records, newspaper and tabloid articles, monographs by descendants of people who experienced the programs in Bulgaria, and suggestions from academics."
Everyone is welcome to this free lecture. Please invite your friends and anyone who might be interested.
For further information, contact AHS — or phone Mary Mousalimas directly.
For insights into the novel, see the PAHH description from a media-release interview with the author.
