The Greeks of Southern CaliforniaThe Greek Heritage Society of Southern California is producing an award winning documentary series, The Greeks of Southern California:
— Part 1, The Pioneers, 1900-1942.
— Part 2, The Promise of Tomorrow.-
The Pioneers, 1900-1942
Part 1, The Pioneers, 1900-1942, highlights some of the historical features of the Greek community in the Los Angeles area, the heritage and cultural background, tradition and achievements.
Hosted and narrated by Olympia Dukakis along with John Kapelos, it has received distinguished awards as a documentary film. It has also received a recommendation from the President of the Film Advisory Board, Inc. Soon after its release in 2002, the documentary was shown in a private screening at 20th Century Fox Studios. Since then, it has been screened in numerous universities and cultural centers. A list of screenings between 2002 and 2005 is available for example while the award winning documentary continues to be available for private and public screenings by request.

The Promise of Tomorrow
Part 2, The Promise of Tomorrow, is currently in production. It will highlight the first and second generation of Greek Americans and the changing face of our community. Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis will return to host the documentary, with additional narration by John Kapelos, as the documentary explores the way in which the Greek American community has become an integral part of American history while maintaining a strong and unique Greek identity.
