This book is a history of the first Greek immigrants who came to Utah in 1900, of the formation of the Greek community of Utah in Salt Lake City in 1905, and of the dedication, generosity, frustrations, and festivities that shaped the community that now thrives.
In the fall of 2005, this community, held together by religious beliefs and energized by a zest for life, observed its centennial and honored the faith and fervor that were so prevalent in the early immigrants — and continue to this day. Greeks of this community have weathered — and continue to weather — the financial strains of growth, but also find joy in the accomplishments of the past as they strive, quite successfully, to perpetuate the customs and traditions, religious rituals and beliefs that have been entrusted to us by our forefathers.
