On October 8 and 9, 2005, the St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church will celebrate the centennial of the formation of the Hellenic Orthodox Community Association of Pueblo, which was chartered in October, 1905. The church itself, completed in 1907, is one the oldest still in use in North America.
Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver and other clergy will be in attendance. Metropolitan Isaiah will conduct a Memorial Service for the departed. Parish members will read names of departed souls.
Vasiliki Limberis, Th.D. Associate Professor of Ancient Christianity, who as a youngster attended St. John, will be the main speaker.
An exhibit of community history will be displayed. A Centennial Memory Book will be published and distributed. The history of the Greek community in Pueblo will be told.
The Centennial Committee wishes to capture all valuable history and photos of the early times of the community.
If you have any connection to Pueblo ... social, business, or even a brief moment in the history of the church ... the committee would like to know. Do you have a story to tell? Copies of any old photos you would like to share?
Please contact the centennial committee.
